Video featuring the EBS certificate program
My PhD advisor, Arpad Horvath, and I are included in a video made by the Luce Foundation featuring the Engineering and Business for Sustainability certificate program at UC Berkeley.
New Paper Published & EBI Energy Farm Visit
My research group’s newest paper, entitled “Lifecycle greenhouse gas implications of US national scenarios for cellulosic ethanol production” is now published in Environmental Research Letters. I also had the exciting opportunity to visit the EBI Energy Farm in Illinois. Since my last visit in 2009, they have built a permanent facility for experimentalists working out in the field, planted woody biomass test plots, and planted test plots of mixed prairie grasses, among other activities.

Upcoming Teaching/Lecture Schedule
I will be guest lecturing in Prof. Arpad Horvath’s UC Berkeley graduate course entitled Civil Systems and the Environment on Thursday, Sept. 22nd at 11am in 534 Davis. I have also committed to teaching a Transportation Sustainability workshop on Saturday, October 22nd for the University of California Extension. Information for those interested in enrolling can be found here.

ES&T Water Paper Published in Special Water-Energy Nexus Issue
A special virtual issue of ES&T was released today on the Water-Energy Nexus and our paper (entitled “Water Footprint of U.S. Transportation Fuels”) has been included.
ISIE 2011 Conference
Co-organized and presented in the June 2011 International Society for Industrial Ecology (ISIE) Conference in Berkeley, CA. Slides are available upon request.
UC Extension Courses
I am lecturing two courses offered by the University of California Extension program (for continuing education): Energy Use and Climate Change and Transportation Sustainability. Both are discussion-heavy and often draw professionals working for energy-related companies such as PG&E – I learn as much from my students as they do from me!
Summer Institute for Preparing Future Faculty
I will be participating in UC Berkeley’s Summer Institute for Preparing Future Faculty for the next month. Topics covered include the application and interview process, negotiating job offers, academic writing/publishing/editing, work-life balance, university governance, and many others.
ESW Webinar
I will be presenting my research to the national chapter of Engineers for a Sustainable World via webinar today. The organization’s calendar of events can be accessed here. Slides are available online, but are password-protected.
